Upd: Jean Valjean/Javert modern AU






Javert’s a stressed workaholic, who doesn’t know how to stay away from the office. Having always been a stickler for to the rules, and, for a lack of a better word, kiss up, during uni, he’s left like a fish out of water when his boss sends him on vacation for the sake of his health.
Javert suddenly finds that he can’t escape old college rival, Valjean, who’s had enough of his corporate career, and seems to have chosen the exact same vacation spot as him. After having stumbled upon each other in restaurants more than once, Valjean invites Javert to dinner. The two have scarcely changed from the young men they were during college, Valjean always teasing and instigating. When Javert actually laughs at a joke, Valjean remarks, “You know, you’re much more amiable when you’re not such a hardass.” And when that only causes Javert to chuckle again and shove lightly at Valjean’s shoulder, Valjean writes down his number on a sauce stained napkin and makes Javert promise to keep in touch.
It’s not long before Javert makes good on that promise and the two meet in a different restaurant, this time less of a surprise.
As the days go by, Javert forgets about marking the days on the calendar until his vacation is over and he forgets to check his e-mail and he forgets to call his assistant asking how the office is doing.
And when the month and a half of his vacation is over, Javert realizes that maybe he loves more than just his job.
